About me

My name is Jorge Santos, and for five years I worked in garden design and maintenance in Vancouver, Canada. It was there that I began to understand gardens as living, complex systems.

With both technical and theoretical training in gardening, botany, landscape design, and permaculture, my work is grounded in observation and respect for natural processes. I place particular emphasis on plant selection, soil care, and the diversity that enriches and sustains a garden.

I believe that the true beauty and enjoyment of a garden also lie in the processes that shape it over time. My approach is rooted in natural principles — not in quick fixes or artificial solutions.

My path into gardening began with a deep curiosity about the natural world. After spending some time studying biology in Salamanca, Spain, I moved to Mexico, where I discovered permaculture while working on an ecological restoration project. That experience shaped the way I understand landscapes — as living systems to be cared for and thoughtfully improved.

Back in Spain, I trained in permaculture design, and soon after moved to Vancouver, where I began working professionally in gardening and landscaping. There, I focused on garden maintenance while developing my skills as both a horticultural technician and a designer, always bringing an ecological perspective to each project.

How it all began

A rural field with large hay bales scattered across it, under a wide blue sky with some white clouds.

Now based in northern Spain, I bring with me the experience of having cared for over 35 gardens and designed more than 25 across British Columbia.

Through my work, I aim to create living, balanced spaces with a strong sense of identity — shaped around the people who inhabit them. If you feel your garden could be something more than just an outdoor space, I’d be glad to accompany you in the process.
